CHANDLER, Ariz., April 13, 2009 [NASDAQ: MCHP] — Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced that it has been recognized by the following U.S. and international organizations for product and business leadership.
“As the worldwide leader in 8-bit microcontrollers and the only company to support all of its 8-, 16- and 32-bit MCUs with a singular integrated development environment, our greatest reward is that design engineers prefer Microchip for their embedded designs,” said Steve Sanghi, Microchip’s president and CEO. “We are extremely honored to be recognized for the technology and business excellence that our global customer base and long-term investors have come to expect. And, I am personally humbled by the Distinguished Achievement Award that Arizona State University bestowed upon me.”
Microchip was named the “Company of the Year” in EE Times magazine’s 2009 Annual Creativity in Electronics, or ACE, Awards. Finalist companies were nominated by the magazine’s editors and evaluated by a panel of industry judges, based on their professionalism, staff development and retention, customer focus, technical excellence and profitable growth.
“Microchip is one of the true success stories in electronics,” said Paul Miller, co-moderator of the event and CEO of TechInsights (the division of United Business Media that operates EE Times).
The readers of EDN Magazine selected Microchip’s 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller family as the winner in the “Microcontroller” category, for the 2008 EDN Innovation Awards. Every year, EDN’s technical editors nominate the most unique, state-of-the-art electronics products, and then let their readership vote for the candidates via an online balloting process. EDN uses a combination of these audience votes, balloting by the EDN Editorial Advisory Board, and voting by EDN’s editorial staff to determine the ultimate winners.

EE Times also chose Microchip’s new seven-member dsPIC33F “GS” Series as their “eeProductCenter Product of the Week.” This digital signal controller family was chosen for helping to take digital power control mainstream by providing low cost, small size, high performance and flexibility. They feature an “Intelligent Power Peripheral,” which includes interconnected analog comparators, Pulse-Width Modulators (PWMs) and Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) that are specialized for digital-power applications and can be software configured to adapt to a variety of topologies.

President and CEO Steve Sanghi was named a 2009 recipient of Arizona State University’s Distinguished Achievement Awards. This honor recognizes people who have contributed specifically to the development of the college recommending the award, which was the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering in Sanghi’s case. Additionally, they chose to honor Sanghi because of his outstanding career and accomplishments, as a citizen of Arizona.
Finally, in the area of international awards, Microchip was named one of the top ten organizations in the Hewitt “Best Employers in Thailand 2009” study. More than 70 organizations registered to participate in the study, the fourth of its kind in Thailand, representing a mix across 13 different industries and the points of view of more than 90,000 full-time employees.
